We recently paid the 69 bucks for some advice on our plumbing issues and it was well worth the money spent.  The plumbing specialist who came out to our house didn't try to sell us a single thing. 

 

He gave our system a thorough once-over and couldn't find a problem with it. Except that he thought we needed a better toilet (he didn't recognize the brand name on the rinky-dink toilet that came with the house when we bought it).  It has routinely backed up at the mere drop of a few extra squares of tissue in the bowl.  What a hassle that's been!

 

He also suggested that we consider getting rid of the garbage disposal playing havoc with our laundry drain, causing us to call out for a plumbing company to professionally snake the drain about every 6-8 months or so. A bill that really adds up over time.

 

So we took his advice. 

 

New higher-end toilet. The garbage disposal also went bye-bye (can't say I ever really liked the thing, looking down at all the nasty remnants that sat in the disposal drain because we hated wasting a lot of water to get rid of it all). 

 

Honestly?  We haven't had a problem since. 

 

Sure, he could have taken us to the cleaners by suggesting a new "this" or "that" plumbing-wise, driving up a huge bill because, well hey, we just aren't educated on plumbing.  But he didn't. He was honest and more than worthy of our confidence.
